Bob McKenty had been invited by Major League Baseball each year to read his light verse at the Hall of Fame. He wrote: "I was in Cooperstown for the "last" Hall of Fame Game (it was rained out), but I no longer do recitations there. Last year they discontinued book signings, and their "Sandlot Stories," the banner under which I recited before I had a book. It was fun while it lasted (eight years; nine appearances)."

On the Fourth of July we, here in the US, celebrate our independence of thought, resilience of spirit, and responsibility as a nation. We have enjoyed 233 years of this privilege and it must be remembered that with privilege there are costs. Costs of this privilege include alertness and awareness of others who wish to destroy the American way of life. We must not and will not let 9/11/01 happen again. Independence of thought, movement, and personal welfare are freedoms that US citizenry have embraced, enjoyed as a whole, and refuse to relinquish.
